Spatial Data Modelling for Social Scientists

Welcome to the Uruguay course edition of Spatial Data Modelling for Social Scientists. This version of the course has been adapted from Rowe and Arribas-Bel (2022) for the course at Universidad de la República, Uruguay, held from 23 to 27 March 2026.
The course aim is to help students understand what makes spatial data different, work with spatial objects in R and apply a set of core methods to real-work data using Uruguay as context. It seeks to cover fundamental tools, methods and models to visualise and analyse spatial data of various forms. It takes an applied, practical approach to tackle relevant social science questions.
